i’ll tell you what i want, what i really really want
God loves when we want to speak to Him like a friend. and He loves to know our dreams. there is nothing wrong with telling God what we want.
but He never promises to fulfill these. but He does say that He will take care of our needs.
Phillipians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
there is a big difference between what we want and what we need. needs are things that are necessary in our lives. needs are defined as a “necessity or required.” these things, God promises to provide.
and if you are pursuing God, you know that sometimes He gives us what we want as well. there are times when we cry out to Him about something that we want, and He gives it to us.
and then there are also the times when He does not. this does not mean that He doesn’t love you. it doesn’t mean that He has forsaken you. it just means that you have what you need, and what you want isn’t in His plan for right now.
i came across this phrase and really loved it: “when God answers your prayers, you trust in His abilities. When God doesn’t answer your prayers, He is trusting in your abilities.”
when He doesn’t do what we ask, He knows we will be okay without it. however, i have a challenge for you. how about we trust Him even when He doesn’t answer our prayers? we need to trust His discernment and His decisions, knowing that He knows best. not just when He gives us what we want.
don’t be afraid to ask God for things you want. He loves when we come to Him about anything and everything. but don’t lose faith or trust when he doesn’t answer them how you expect.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
